Taysir Khaled calls for rebuking António Guterres in the upcoming meeting with him
September 4, 2017

Taysir Khaled, a member of the Executive Committee of the PLO and of the Political Bureau of the DFLP, through his blog on social networking sites on Monday, called for rebuking António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, due to his request to withdraw a UN report that accusing Israel of practicing racial discrimination against the Palestinians.

Khaled added: "Do you remember the shameful attitude of Mr. António Guterres, the UN secretary-general, who requested to remove a UN report from meeting on last March, because it accused Israel of practicing apartheid toward the Palestinians?"

Mrs. Rima Khalaf responded to this by resigning from her position as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), after Guterres asked her to withdraw the report as a result of American and Israeli pressure.

He continued: ''At the time, Mrs. Rima Khalaf made Mr. Guterres shocked, when she said in her letter of resignation: ‘I give you my resignation because I think, it is my duty not to hide a testimony of fact about the crime of apartheid which has been practiced by the State of Israel, and to stand aside just to make a chance for others to do what my conscience does not allow me to do’".

Taysir Khaled concluded: "The Palestinian side should rebukes Mr. Guterres in his upcoming meeting. This is the minimum duty to remind him of his responsibilities as Secretary-General of the United Nations, he must act honestly and conscientiously".
